Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Early Warning Information Management System (EWS) for malaria and dengue surveillance in Tanzania, including the web app, mobile app, USSD, SMS channels, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
By registering for or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Purpose of the Service
EWS supports early warning, surveillance, reporting, and public health response for vector-borne diseases. Features may include weather and risk alerts, map-based area checks, health surveys, dashboards for authorized officials, task management, AI-assisted learning, and integration with national health information systems as described in the project SRS.
2. Eligibility and registration
- You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account.
- You must select the role that truthfully reflects your position. Misrepresentation may result in suspension.
- Institutional users (MoH, regional, district, facility, and community roles) must use the Service only within their authorized scope.
- The general public may register to receive alerts and use individual features such as contributing data, checking their area, weather forecasts, and learning more about vector-borne diseases.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading, or malicious health information.
- Attempt to access data, accounts, or dashboards without authorization.
- Interfere with system security, audit logs, or normal operation of the Service.
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or misuse APIs except as expressly permitted.
- Use the Service for unlawful purposes or in violation of national health regulations.
4. Health information disclaimer
EWS provides informational alerts, forecasts, educational chat responses, and decision-support tools. It does not replace professional medical diagnosis, treatment, or emergency care. Always seek care at a licensed health facility when you or someone else is unwell.
AI-generated map analysis, chat answers, and risk indicators may be incomplete or inaccurate. Official guidance from MoH, local health authorities, and qualified clinicians takes precedence.
5. Location and map services
Some features require location access or manual map selection. Map imagery is provided by third-party providers and may vary in resolution by area. You are responsible for how you use location data when contributing surveys or requesting area analysis.
6. User contributions and surveillance data
When you submit surveys, reports, photos, or other contributions, you confirm that the information is provided in good faith and that you have the right to share it. You grant the EWS programme and authorized health partners the right to use submitted data for surveillance, response, analytics, and programme improvement in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable data-sharing agreements.
7. Alerts and communications
By registering, you may receive disease alerts, weather warnings, task notifications, OTP messages, and programme communications by SMS, email, or in-app notification depending on your settings and role. Standard carrier charges may apply for SMS.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including software, dashboards, models, branding, and documentation developed under the programme, is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, you may not copy, modify, or redistribute system components except as allowed by open-source licences where explicitly stated.
9. Availability and changes
We aim to keep EWS available and reliable, but uninterrupted access is not guaranteed. Maintenance, connectivity issues, or upgrades may cause temporary downtime. Features may be added, changed, or removed as the programme evolves in line with the SRS and stakeholder needs.
10. Account suspension and termination
We may suspend or disable accounts that violate these Terms, pose a security risk, or misuse surveillance data. You may request deletion of your account as described on the delete account page. Provisions that by nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, data retention limits, and liability limits) will continue to apply.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the EWS programme, NM-AIST, and partner institutions are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service, including reliance on alerts, forecasts, or AI outputs. Use of the Service is at your own risk.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania. Disputes should first be addressed through the programme support channels before other remedies are pursued.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version and date will always appear at the top of this page. If you continue using the Service after updated Terms are published, you accept the revised Terms where permitted by law. Registration may require acceptance of the current version (v1.0).
